MetroGistics has developed a texting solution it said will allow customers to monitor shipments and drivers to update load status in real-time through their mobile phones.

The service also allows customers to obtain quotes.

“As a technology-driven company, we are constantly looking for ways to tailor solutions to our customers’ and drivers’ needs,” said Scott Naz, a managing partner with MetroGistics. “With the prevalence of mobile phones, it just made sense for us to develop systems to accommodate that mode of communication.”

By simply texting the word quote to 35819, mobile phone users can receive a shipping quote following a series of prompts. Updates on shipments can be obtained by texting the word status.

Drivers and carriers can update delivery details by texting update and following prompts to update the shipment’s status. The system will automatically generate and e-mail to MetroGistics’ central dispatch.
