Convenience store chain Wawa, Inc. has added Descartes System Group's Automated Vehicle Locator (AVL) service for its direct distribution operations. The AVL system allows users to reallocate drivers to other parts of their operations by utilizing a web-based view of real-time information of deliveries at distribution centers. The service also uses Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technology to provide real-time data on driver progress, enabling users to alter route plans if necessary.
Forward Air Inc., a ground transportation supplier for the air cargo industry, is equipping all 1,900 trailers in its fleet with GE's VeriWise trailer tracking and management systems. Jeff Woods, the company's sr. vp of logistics, says it expects the system to improve utilization, automate trailer inventories and help it identify under-utilized equipment.
SkyBitz says five additional fleets installed SkyBitz GLS 200its satellite-based asset tracking system in nearly 600 trailers. The five are: American Wood Fibers, Inc., located in Columbia, MD; Clark & Reid Co., Inc., a Billerica, MA, moving company; H&N Transport, a subsidiary of agribusiness Hartung Brothers; R.E. Barnett & Sons Trucking, a long-haul carrier and Express Way Group.
Luber-finer, a division of Champion Laboratories, Inc., has launched a Spanish language website (www.luberfiner.com/espanol) offering online access to product catalogs, bulletins, and product-related information on each of its seven filtering product lines. The site also includes Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), background on its parent company, and industry links.
