Vehicle Inspection Systems Inc. has introduced a new automated aluminum rim polishing machine, a fully automated system requiring no manual labor. The machine can polish six 19-inch to 24-inch rims in three hours, the company said.

“When aluminum wheels first hit the roads, everybody loved them because they looked beautiful,” said Robert Beare, VIS director of market development. “But they only look beautiful for so long. Oxidation and exposure to sand and salt can turn them dull and gray. Unlike all the chrome on a truck, which you can take a damp cloth to and get a shine back, each rim can take one to three hours to polish by hand.”

The system will be available soon at select truck dealers and tire shops, said VIS.
