Transportation Costing Group (TCG) has released an updated version of its Cost Information System (CIS/NG) that offers improved data analysis and productivity, the company said.

Used by less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers, the updated CIS/NG still offers all the same applications and functionality of the LTL Cost Information System (LTL/CIS), but with more productivity tools and scalability to match capacity and performance needs.

“A primary design goal for CIS/NG was to help users be more productive with our system while preserving the accuracy and specificity for which LTL/CIS is known,” said Ken Manning, president. “CIS/NG offers very substantial performance improvements in all aspects of LTL costing operations.”

CIS/NG combines traffic and financial information, such as freight bills, and through user-built shipment description files helps LTL carriers develop cost analyses for individual shipments. Results of shipment cost analyses can be expanded to include any or all activities, such as pickup cost detail, TCG said.

The new CIS/NG software will consolidate functions into a single costing and reporting application so users can cost shipments, generate traffic reports and import external shipment data within the same application; runs operations in the background so other functions can be preformed; has a sophisticated search and replace functionality for shipment files; and offers several ways to create sample shipments for re-costing purposes.

In addition, TCG said the software allows the creation of user-selected, targeted representative sample of bills from individual report grouping levels used to generate weight and revenue variances; and has a dynamic grouping feature to allow users to report on traffic without pre-setting criteria.
