SmartDrive is working with Zurich to launch a new fleet risk management solution called Zurich Fleet Intelligence (ZFI). The solution will provide SmartDrive’s telematics devices to Zurich’s insurance customers to help them minimize fleet operating costs and reduce crashes.

Zurich is part of Zurich Financial Services. SmartDrive provides video-based driver safety and fleet management systems.

“By bringing together key information from the vehicle computer, driving telematics, and sophisticated video analytics, SmartDrive provides the most comprehensive risk profiles in the industry to quickly and correctly identify the riskiest driving behaviors,” said Jason Palmer, SmartDrive president.

ZFI combines the raw data from either a SmartDrive telematic device or data from other vehicle telematic providers and Zurich’s analytical tools. It presents that data in usable metrics.

The system can help provide planning and deployment optimization; reduce vehicle running costs; achieve desired fuel-economy results; reduce crash risk through defensive driver training; reduce insurance premiums by reducing risks; reduce driver fatigue; and improve a fleet’s impact on the environment.

“By working with leading vehicle telematics providers like SmartDrive, Zurich is able to offer independent advice on the most appropriate package of services to meet our customers' individual needs,” said Paul Horgan, chief underwriting officer for Zurich Global Corporate in North America.
