CINCINNATI. Here at the National Private Truck Council annual meeting, PeopleNet rolled out two new service offerings to aid compliance with the recent CSA 2010 and EOBR (electronic onboard recorder) federal regulations. “Under CSA 2010, carriers and drivers will be assessed on the most recent 24 months of on-road performance and crash data by the new Safety Measurement System (SMS),” pointed out PeopleNet COO Brian McLaughlin.
“Carriers who currently don’t have EOBR or onboard technology will find these [PeopleNet] bundles essential for ensuring compliance and avoiding scrutiny by FMCSA’s expanding radar, as well as costly repairs, delays, penalties, and work stoppages associated with inspections and investigations,” he continued. “We are so confident that we can impact a customer’s CSA 2010 score that we guarantee results. If we don’t, the customer pays nothing.”
According to McLaughlin, PeopleNet’s EOBR is compliant with current safety regulations and will remain compliant with the recent FMCSA ruling 395.16. He said the company’s new EOBR bundle is a low-cost fleet management offering with eDriver Logs that enables electronically logging drivers’ hours of service (HOS) and fully comply with HOS regulations. He called PeopleNet’s CSA 2010 bundle a more comprehensive approach to meeting safety goals. In addition to managing drivers’ HOS with eDriver Logs the CSA 2010 bundle includes other safety applications such as Onboard Event Recording, Speedgauge, engine fault code monitoring, speed alarms and more. This bundle also includes onsite help by PeopleNet Professional Services to ensure CSA 2010 readiness by helping customers understand how to use the technology to assess, measure and impact safety performance.
McLaughlin said the new bundled resources are key to managing driver and carrier performance that will mitigate the impact of CSA 2010’s stringent standards. “More and heavier fines are on the horizon, according to the FMCSA,” he noted. “It estimates that carriers will have an 8.5 times greater chance of incurring heavier fines and being mandated what their operation must do to become compliant. Five of the top 10 most frequently cited violations in 2009 were HOS related, with ‘driver log form and manner’ and ‘driver record of duty status not current’ the most frequent. eDriver Logs is critical for avoiding these violations.”
