PRINCETON, NJ. The new version 8 of CoPilot Live Truck, the truck-specific navigation and routing software for mobile devices from ALK, is available from Apple as an iPhone and iPad application. Like previous versions of the program, v8 is also available for other GPS-equipped mobile devices including smartphones, handhelds and laptops.

CoPilot Live Truck uses ALK’s PC-Miler truck-specific maps to calculate routes and provide hands-free voice-guided navigation. The program maps are stored on the hand-held devices so navigation is not dependent on mobile data network access and speed.

Unlike consumer products, Live Truck builds routes that take into account truck restrictions such as bridge heights, weight and length limits, and hazmat requirements, according to the developer. It also provides truck-specific points of interest such as scale locations, truck stops and rest areas with truck parking.

Other new features for v8 include lane guidance with actual sign-post information for complex intersections, and free quarterly map updates through ALK’s MapSure service. It also creates state mileage logs for tax reporting and a fuel-cost estimator.

Like earlier version, the new CoPilot Live Truck can be customized for individual truck dimensions and can provide toll information for routes or build routes to avoid toll charges.

In addition to navigation, CoPilot Live Truck v8 includes useful features that help drivers manage costs, including toll avoidance and a fuel cost estimator. State mileage logs can be generated to provide an accurate record for reporting, billing and tax calculation.

CoPilot Live Truck will be available in May at www.copilotlive.com or through Apple’s app store, according to ALK.
