Building on its success installing solar-based tracking systems on dry vans in 2007, Xtra Lease has now added the trailer-tracking feature to its refrigerated and flatbed units.

The units include a web-based interface and derive power from either a solar source or seven-way charging system designed to increase battery life. The unit is installed on the top edge of the roof on refrigerated trailers and on the main frame of flatbeds.

Also announced is a new one-way refrigerated monitoring service, enabling customers to monitor the operating status of reefer units from their desktops. Current temperature, set-point and alarms can all be checked and e-mail alerts can be set up for when temperatures fall outside of predetermined ranges or when an alarm is generated. Fuel level, battery voltage, engine status, fan speed and more are additional options that can be tracked.
