Supply chain solutions from RedPrairie Corp. now provide food and beverage manufacturers with the tools to support compliance with new Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations designed to protect food supplies from bioterrorism.

Final mandates published by the FDA on Dec. 6, 2004 require those manufacturers to track food products throughout the entire supply chain by December 2006. Companies must also maintain supply chain records for up to two years and be able to supply records within 24 hours of an FDA request in order to help protect consumers against bioterrorism in the food chain.

According to the company, its warehouse management system contains the data structures needed for the FDA's detailed record requirements, including contact information for carriers and recipients, specific vendor and supplier contact information with email addresses, type of food, brand name and specific variety, date released, quantity, and type of packaging. RedPrairie customers are also able to define how long they want to store this transaction history.
