PeopleNet has introduced a handheld platform equipped with PeopleNet’s g3 mobile computing and communication system to enable drivers to gather and display information wirelessly.

The new handheld platform combines onboard and portable technologies to bring its capabilities from behind the wheel to wherever a driver actually works, at customer facilities and around the truck, PeopleNet said.

PeopleNet partnered with leading mobile solutions software provider TrueContext to provide mobile form solutions on handheld devices.

Using the device, drivers can fill out essential business and regulatory forms such as vehicle inspection reports and delivery manifests. These digital documents can be adapted to the specific needs of trucking companies, PeopleNet said.

Some handhelds support signature capture and bar-code scanning and digital cameras, enabling a driver to efficiently document items delivered or picked up, or to photograph and document damages.

All data can be electronically transmitted to headquarters over PeopleNet’s g3 mobile communications system. The transmission can be regularly scheduled or at the option of either driver or management.
