BIRMINGHAM. A new application for iPhone and Android phones will allow fleets and shippers to quickly track freight and provide proof of delivery among other functions. The app was displayed by maker uFollowit here at the McLeod Software Users’ Conference.

“This application is aimed at taking advantage of the ever advancing and increasingly affordable smart phone technology that uFollowit is keenly focused on,” said Danny Dever, vp of sales. “Our goal is to help everyone from the individual owner-operator to large fleets leverage progressive innovations to simplify and advance the efficiency of the freight and transportation industry.”

The app allows drivers to snap a quick picture of a document, edit that picture, and then choose from a list the type of doc it is. Once that is done, the picture is transferred in high-resolution, full-color format to a uFollowit server. The server then sends a smaller black-and-white version to the customer. The high-resolution image is available to the customer should it be needed.

Google maps are used to transfer location information. Drivers enter basic information such as load number, or a message such as delay due to traffic. The information is then sent out immediately via email or SMS text message.
