A lower-cost way to manage assets and find stolen equipment, from dump trucks to road graders, is being rolled out by LoJack Corp.

Called “LoCate,” the system uses a small transmitter equipped with GPS technology encased in a rugged shell designed to handle rough conditions. It comes with three simple monthly plans, said LoJack: Basic (40 transactions per month), Plus (100 transactions per month) and Premium (400 transactions per month). The devices also feature radio frequency technology to offer precise “last mile” tracking, enabling police to pinpoint the precise location of a stolen vehicle.

The company noted several key benefits LoCate can offer to maximize a fleet’s return on investment (ROI) in this technology, such as: Location on demand, so fleets can gain real-time location data; geofencing capability, so fleets can set pre-defined radial boundaries around equipment and receive alerts if it exits the area; engine hours monitoring, for more effective maintenance planning and customer billing; and finally defined reporting, so users can create unique reports to track equipment utilization and maintenance scheduling.

“It gives end-users unprecedented control over their valuable assets, maximizing the ROI on their equipment and enhancing business profitability,” said Ronald Waters, LoJack’s president & COO.
