PeopleNet has announced an expansion of its Lane Departure Warning integration network, adding Takata SafeTraK and Mobileye to the network.

The announcement was made yesterday at PeopleNet’s annual User Conference, taking place in Boca Raton, FL, through Wednesday.

“Offering our customers a broad choice of providers helps mitigate one of the major causes of highway fatalities—lane departure due to drowsy, fatigued or distracted drivers,” said Matt Voda, vice president of product management for PeopleNet. “Fleets using a warning system report a 75% average decrease in truck lane-departure accidents.”

The system is programmed to recognize the difference between road and lane markings, alerting drivers who drift out of a lane. The small, integrated unit consists of a camera, onboard computer and software that easily attaches to the windshield, dashboard or into the overhead console of a vehicle.

The new integrations allow fleet managers to have visibility into all lane departure events to identify trends where intervention may be necessary.

Takata’s SafeTraK 3 includes vehicle monitoring software that tracks time of day, number of alerts and variability in driving performance. There is also an alert to indicate inadvertent lane departures and weaving within lanes, the company said.

Mobileye offers vision-based driver assistance systems and analytics.
