Combining good deeds with fundraising, the educational group that matches students with pen-pal truck drivers is collecting used cellphones. Trucker Buddy will receive contributions for all phones, batteries and accessories turned over to Eco-Cell, which says 80% of the phones collected will be given to low-income users in Latin America or selected local organizations for emergency call service. All unusable phones and batteries will be properly recycled under EPA guidelines, according to Trucker Buddy.

For information on obtaining collection boxes, contact Trucker Buddy executive director Ellen Voie at 800-MY-BUDDY. Used phones can also be sent directly to Trucker Buddy, c/o Eco-Cell, 531 N. Hite Ave., Louisville, KY 40206.
