Untethered trailer tracking from Qualcomm's OmniVision service now includes full monitoring functions for refrigeration units. Announced at the Truckload Carriers Assn. annual meeting, the new reefer trailer service allows remote monitoring of load temperatures and unit status to improve cold chain management and reefer maintenance.

The service will automatically alert fleets when reefer unit fuel is low, temperatures deviate from settings, or if there is a unit shutdown, even if the trailer is unhooked from a power unit. When hooked to a tractor equipped with OmniVision in-cab hardware, the monitoring service will provide drivers with immediate alerts to refrigeration problems.
