Trailer tracking provider SkyBitz is adding three new options to its Global Locating System (GLS) designed to heighten security and increase operational efficiencies for carriers.
The first is event notification, built to add an extra layer of security and accountability to the SkyBitz real-time asset monitoring capabilities by instantly triggering an email alert when it detects a situation that needs attention, said Roni Taylor, SkyBitz executive vp.
Customers can program notification alerts for when a trailer door is opened, when cargo has been added to or removed from a trailer or when a trailer has been idle for a specified period of time, she said. Also, fleets use the same function to alert a customer that a trailer has been sitting for more than its contracted time and that detention billing is beginning.
The second new feature is RouteFence, used in conjunction with event notification, to increase security by sending email alerts when a trailer deviates from its defined route. RouteFence enables the customer to draw a route and set the boundaries by specifying a series of points and then monitor where the trailer is along that route at any given time, said Taylor.
Finally, there’s “polygonal landmark” capability, which enables customers to create irregularly shaped boundaries to more precisely define a landmark and pinpoint the location of their trailers.
“Our customers, especially bulk carriers transporting sensitive loads that are at risk of being tampered with, need even greater visibility to their assets at every point along the designated routes,” said Taylor. “These three enhancements add a higher level of sophistication to our monitoring capabilities and provide extra peace of mind.”
