LOUISVILLE, KY. A new navigation system from Cobra Electronics Corp. has been designed specifically for the professional truck driver with truck routing and points-of-interest pertinent to drivers.

The Cobra 5550 Pro is a smaller version of the company’s 7750 Platinum device. The 5550 Pro offers a 5-in. navigation screen and includes graphics, junction view with lane assist, state mileage log, hours-of-service log, and routing.

The unit is being shown this week at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, KY.

“At Cobra, we have been designing products for the professional driver for over 50 years,” said Sally Washlow, senior vice president of marketing and sales. “We understand what drivers want and use this knowledge to create the most intuitive, efficient, and powerful line of truck-specific GPS products on the market. With the 5550 PRO, we’ve taken virtually all the power and functionality of the award-winning 7750 Platinum unit and paired it with a 5-in. LCD screen. The result is one of the most impressive navigation systems on the market for professional truckers.”

The unit includes a “quick-tabs” feature that makes finding critical information such as weigh stations, travel centers, rest areas, and mile markers, quick and easy. Junction view with lane assist offers 3D images of upcoming interchanges as well as lane guidance and turn-by-turn directions.

The state mileage log monitors miles driven within a state for International Fuel Tax Agreement reporting. The mapping function includes last mile (dock-to-dock) coverage and more trucking attribute coverage on secondary highways than competitive products, Cobra said. There are 12 million points-of-interest plus 33,000 truck-specific points-of-interest.

All the truck-specific data is supplied by ProMiles Software Development Corp. and TruckDown Info International. The data includes routable travel center locations, detailed amenity information, fueling stations, restaurants, heavy-duty towing, truck and trailer repair shops, truck-friendly hotels, weigh stations, and the location of certified scales.

Purchasing the product will entitle the user to three months of unlimited downloads from Cobra’s exclusive Aura Camera & Driving Hazard Database, which alerts drivers to the locations of fixed speed and red-light cameras, dangerous intersections, and known speed traps.
