SAN DIEGO. Users of Qualcomm Inc.’s mobile computing platforms will now be able to tap ALK Technologies’ CoPilot Truck’s onboard, truck-specific GPS navigation solution. The two companies announced a collaborative agreement here at the Truckload Carriers Assn. (TCA) annual convention.

Qualcomm’s Mobile Computing Platform 50 (MCP50) will now come with the ALK solution standard. It will be available as an option to purchasers of the Qualcomm MPC 110 and MCP 200 platforms.

CoPilot Truck uses ALK Digital Maps and PC*Miler data to provide accurate routing and reduce unnecessary fuel expenses. The solution offers optimal, truck-legal routes based on vehicle profile, routing parameters, and load-specific information, including hazmat.

“We are pleased to be offering ALK’s highly customizable and cost-effective, in-cab navigation application for our customers,” said Norm Ellis, vp of sales, services & marketing for Qualcomm Enterprise Services. “By collaborating with leading providers of best-in-class technologies, we can offer our customers the most valuable and comprehensive fleet management solutions in the industry.”

The system uses vehicle height, length, width, and cargo type in determining the routing, offering practice, shortest, national network, 53-t. trailer, and toll avoidance options.

The use of PC*Miler will allow operational consistency with customers’ driver pay, rating, billing and fuel tax reporting practices, according to Qualcomm.

An intuitive driver interface with spoken turn-by-turn directions and customization options is also included as are points of interest. including truck services, truckstops, rest areas, CAT scales and weigh stations.

“We are excited to collaborate with Qualcomm to bring CoPilot Truck to its substantial customer base,” said Michael Kornhauser, managing director of CoPilot Solutions at ALK Technologies. “By combining Qualcomm’s powerful Mobile Computing Platform Series with our proven truck-specific navigation technology, fleets can dramatically improve operational efficiency and achieve significant productivity gains.”
