Truck-Lite has released 7-in. LED headlamps geared for the heavy-duty commercial vehicle market
Truck-Lite has released 7-in. LED headlamps geared for the heavy-duty commercial vehicle market. According to the company, it is the first light-emitting diode headamp to be commercially available and already has been put into service on a number of military vehicles.
According to the company, technicians tested the LED headlamps at the Army Cold Regions Test Center in Alaska, where evaluators said they were easy on the eyes, provided daylight clarity and “should last through the 20 to 30 year lifetime of military vehicles.”
The LED headlamps are currently available only for 24-volt applications with 7-in. round headlights, but Brad VanRiper, Truck-Lite sr. vp of r&d and CTO, said the company is testing 12-volt 7-in.dlamps and expects them to go into production soon.
The light source for each headlamp is ten Luxeon LEDs. These are brighter than traditional glass beam headlights yet produce a crisper, whiter light output expected to last up to 50 times longer than halogen sealed or bulb-replaceable lamps, Truck-Lite said.
