CoPilot Truck Optimized by Qualcomm will be the exclusive in-cab navigation application at launch for Qualcomm’s Mobile Computing Platform 50 (MCP50). CoPilot Truck, from ALK Technologies, help fleets reduce out-of-route mileage, increase driver efficiency and compliance, and improve driver safety, the company said.
Drivers can calculate optimal, truck-specific routes with the system based on their vehicle attributes and preferred travel options, including hazmat categories, without the need for off-board computations. Up-to-date, street-level ALK Maps of the U.S. and Canada, enhanced with PC*Miler truck-specific attributes and millions of points of interest, including truck services, truck stops, rest areas and weigh stations, are stored directly on-board the MCP50 for constant, reliable access.
“CoPilot Truck Optimized by Qualcomm is a key component of the MCP50, which helps fleets address a broad range of operational challenges,” said Norm Ellis, vice president of sales, services and marketing for Qualcomm Enterprise Services. “Our collaboration with ALK provides a powerful solution that can benefit for-hire and private fleets of all sizes.”
CoPilot Truck also offers voice-guided, turn-by-turn directions using Qualcomm’s In-Motion user interface and text-to-speech functionality. The application features a dynamic map and driver safety guidance views along with enhanced guidance on the approach to complex interchanges with real signpost information and lane assist arrows. Automatic alerts appear on-screen to warn the driver of upcoming potential hazards.
“ALK is pleased that Qualcomm has chosen CoPilot Truck’s reliable on-board solution as the in-cab navigation component of their newest mobile fleet management solution, the MCP50,” said Michael Kornhauser, senior vice president of Enterprise Solutions, ALK Technologies. “CoPilot Truck’s unique value of delivering industry standard PC*Miler routing to the cab, combined with Qualcomm’s powerful fleet management solutions, provides fleets of all sizes an unparalleled solution.”
