PrePass weigh in motion system enrollment grows

June 21, 2012

More than 426,000 commercial motor carriers have enrolled in the PrePass weigh station safety screening system, bringing participation to an all-time high. PrePass is a truck safety e-screening program whereby qualified motor carriers can electronically comply with state weight, safety and credential requirements while bypassing weigh stations at highway speed.

PrePass participation is voluntary and to be eligible carriers must meet minimum state-established safety and credential requirements. Carriers pay a monthly service fee of about $17. Over 90% of the nation's top 100 for-hire carriers and thousands of private fleets and owner-operators are saving time, money and fuel with PrePass, according the service provider.

“The recent growth in participation by motor carriers is a testament to bottom line safety and economic benefits carriers receive,” said Richard A. Clasby, president & CEO of HELP Inc., the PrePass service provider. “To date, carriers have saved more than 41 million hours of driver time, nearly 200 million gals. of fuel, and operating savings of $3.3 billion.”

According to Karen Rasmussen, vice chairman of HELP and president of the Arizona Trucking Assn., “PrePass has been a great safety tool for the trucking industry, as well as a way for carriers to better serve their shippers.”

PrePass and its electronic toll collection companion service are operational at weigh stations and/or toll plazas in 38 states.
