Omnitracs passes two milestones

Oct. 16, 2013

Omnitracs, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The company also announced it now has 200,000 users of its hours-of-service application.

Established in 1988 by Qualcomm, the company signed its first customer, Schneider National, later that year.

“When Schneider National joined forces with Omnitracs more than 20 years ago, we knew we were on the cusp of a powerful idea, and that Omnitracs’ powerful technology would one day revolutionize the industry,” said Chris Lofgren, president and CEO, Schneider National, Inc. “We’re proud to continue to work alongside Omnitracs, and congratulate the company on achieving 25 years of industry success.”

“We acknowledge and thank our many for-hire and private fleet customers who have worked collaboratively with Omnitracs over the past 25 years to advance the industry,” said Norm Ellis, vice president of sales and marketing, Omnitracs. “Forward-thinking fleets, such as Schneider National, Southern Pride Trucking and FedEx Custom Critical, are not only the reason Omnitracs has experienced such tremendous growth, they’re also why we continue to strive to create and enhance industry-leading technology solutions to help fleets improve safety, compliance, efficiency, and productivity.”

Omnitracs also said it now has more than 200,000 of its hour-of-service (HOS) application. The application provides real-time driver log reporting.  It is web-based, allowing it to be updated rapidly over-the-air. Additionally, the intuitive user interface minimized the amount of driver training required for them to transition to the Omnitracs HOS application, enabling fleets to realize continued compliance, productivity, fuel efficiency, and customer service efficiency, Omnitracs said.

Omnitracs’ HOS application features up-to-date availability calculation based on automatic driving time detection using vehicle sensor data, minimizing driver interaction and data entry. It also provides near real-time notifications to drivers and dispatch of impending or actual violations to help avoid or address infractions. Omnitracs’ web interface seamlessly presents driver status, availability and reports for improved fleet management and safety audits.

“Given the recent changes in Hours of Service rules, some fleets are struggling to keep pace and remain compliant, and new advanced mobile technology can help fleets navigate the many emerging challenges,” said Vikas Jain, vice president of product management and software as a service at Omnitracs. “Our latest adoption numbers demonstrate the value our Hours of Service application provides fleets like Wynne Transport Service who have witnessed significant ROI and operational improvements. It’s our mission to help fleets meet their business goals, while improving safety and compliance.”
