INDIANAPOLIS. General Motors has partnered with Telogis, Inc. to offer fleet customers a new telematics solution, it was announced here at the NTEA Work Truck Show.
According to GM, the solution will “provide actionable data to help control costs, increase safety and enhance fleet operations.”
Via the partnership, Telogis is integrating its location intelligence platform with the proprietary application program interfaces (APIs) of GM’s OnStar vehicle-connectivity system to provide information about vehicles to fleet customers.
The two firms pointed out that through the new offering, commercial fleets will be able to receive “actionable intelligence” relating to vehicle location, odometer, fuel consumption and other maintenance information on their GM OnStar-connected vehicles.
Per the OEM, on properly equipped GM fleet vehicles, OnStar technology is integrated into the vehicle from the point of vehicle manufacture and is covered under GM’s standard bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and can be serviced at any of GM’s 4,300 U.S. dealers.
“The combination of OnStar’s industry-leading, unique infrastructure and the Telogis platform will allow fleet managers to keep their vehicles running smoothly on the road,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president-- GM Fleet and Commercial. “This is the next step in expanding our connected vehicle service offerings to help fleets operate more efficiently and identify cost savings.”
"By leveraging GM’s OnStar connected services infrastructure, we make it easier for customers to access our comprehensive location-intelligence platform directly through any GM OnStar-equipped commercial vehicles,” said Susan Heystee, executive vice president-- worldwide sales at Telogis.
"GM customers have easy access to powerful analytics and connected intelligence that will transform the way their business is done outside the four walls," she added.
According to Telogis, its comprehensive cloud-based location intelligence platform is designed for customers requiring route optimization, real-time work order management, commercial navigation, telematics and mobile-integration services for mobile workforces.
The partnership between the two companies will enable information from the field to be transmitted from a vehicle using OnStar technology
The two firms emphasized that the system will not require any additional hardware or third-party installation costs, “making it an attractive and cost effective solution for commercial fleets to access location and vehicle intelligence, assisting fleets in lowering their total cost of ownership.”
The Telogis platform is the first set of commercial applications to utilize OnStar’s proprietary through an online portal announced in early 2013. GM said the portal allows developers to work with the OEM in “a secure and controlled manner to design, test and deliver relevant, customizable and seamlessly integrated automotive apps and services.”
The Telogis fleet telematics solution via OnStar will be available starting “in spring 2014,” the companies said.
Telogis also noted that it recently secured a $93-million institutional financing round, led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, that is being used “to further capitalize on the market and continue to focus on providing innovative technologies and solutions that enable enterprises and organizations to optimize the management of their mobile assets including better data collection and analysis.”
According to GM, its OnStar LLC subsidiary provides “connected safety, security and mobility solutions and advanced information technology,” including such key services as automatic crash response, stolen vehicle assistance, remote door unlock, turn-by-turn navigation, vehicle diagnostics and hands-free calling.
