Mesilla Valley Transportation extends PeopleNet relationship; Zimmerman adopts PeopleNet solution

April 1, 2014

PeopleNet said that Mesilla Valley Transportation (MVT) has extended its 12-year partnership with the company for its entire fleet of 1,100 vehicles. The company also said that Zimmerman Truck Lines is adopting PeopleNet technology for its entire dry van and flatbed fleets.

The announcements were made at the recently Truckload Carriers Assn. annual meeting.

“Over the past 12 years, we have taken advantage of PeopleNet’s expanding driver and vehicle data to help us manage fuel economy,” said Mike Kelley, MVT’s director of information technology. “MPG and safety go hand in hand in that this same information has been helpful in revving up our safety program and steadily lowering our CSA score.”

MVT was among the first to implement PeopleNet Vehicle Management with a driver incentive program to improve MPG, PeopleNet said.

The carrier also uses PeopleNet’s eDriver Logs in its safety and compliance program. Electronic logs have made MVT’s nearly 1,400 drivers more efficient and has helped them improve their earnings, said Wayne Miller, MVT director of safety.

“Driving behavior is the most critical factor in our safety program. That’s why detailed OER (onboard event recorder) reports from PeopleNet that include second-by-second information – braking, sudden acceleration and deceleration, etc. – are extremely valuable in coaching drivers,” said Miller.

“Our strong partnership with MVT is a perfect example of PeopleNet technology’s power to enable carrier and driver success on all levels,” said Mark Kessler, PeopleNet senior vice president of sales. “MVT is staying ahead of the curve when it comes to safety, compliance, efficiency and fuel economy.”

Zimmerman will add PeopleNet’s fleet mobility platform as well as Vusion’s MPG analytics and fuel tax application. Vusion is a division of PeopleNet.

“We’ll be able to pull all available driver and vehicle data together from multiple sources faster and in a way that will let us leverage the most current advanced truck technologies and improve data accuracy,” said Dave Wetzler, Zimmerman dispatch manager for special projects.

In addition to implementing PeopleNet for reporting and analytics, the carrier is focusing on automating workflow with geofencing to improve driver efficiency. PeopleNet will be integrated with Zimmerman’s TMW dispatch system.
