Hino and Telogis announce partnership

Hino Trucks, a Toyota Group Company, announced this morning that the company has partnered with Telogis to release its next-generation platform for Hino INSIGHT, the company’s web-based location and telematics solution tailored specifically for the medium-duty commercial truck market.  The partnership is exclusive and involves multiple layers of cooperation from sales support to technical training for customers.

“Telematics is more of a requirement than it was even four years ago,” Glenn Ellis, vice president marketing, product planning and dealer operations for Hino Motors Sales U.S.A., Inc. told Fleet Owner.  Fleets need telematics to stay competitive and we need to offer comprehensive solutions to stay ahead of the market.

Launching this summer, Hino INSIGHT 2.0 powered by Telogis will be standard on model year 2015 Hino 195h and 195h-DC hybrid models, and an option on the 195 and 195-DC models and the full conventional truck product lineup. Hybrid truck customers will receive the hardware free of charge plus one year of free service.

The product and service suite will provide Hino customers with access to Telogis’ comprehensive location intelligence platform that includes solutions for route optimization, real-time work order management, truck-specific navigation, telematics and mobile integration services.

“Telogis partnered with Hino to provide new and existing customers with exclusive connectivity and services that can only be achieved through this kind of integrated partnership with the manufacturer,” said Susan Heystee, executive vice president, worldwide sales at Telogis. “With Hino INSIGHT 2.0 powered by Telogis, customers now have one of the easiest paths to advanced solutions that help them maximize uptime and enhance the safety, productivity and environmental impact of their fleets.

“We have the expertise in telematics, so we will work with end users very closely,” she told Fleet Owner.  According to both companies, the “on-boarding” process will be tailored to each user. “We believe it is important to walk before you run,” Heystee said.  Accordingly, we will focus first around a fleet’s key objectives—say safety and driver performance—and then add other capabilities later. The important thing is to achieve results early on, measurable results, so we begin with some high-level metrics and then drill down to more detail as users learn.

“This next-generation technology brings new functionality, a refined user interface and a robust platform to support the needs of our largest fleet customer or an individual owner-operator,” said Ellis. “Telogis’ significant investments in R&D and product innovation plus its experience in the OEM environment make them the standard for excellence in the connected services industry.”

Telogis also has partnerships in place with Ford and General Motors and a memorandum of agreement with Volvo Trucks N. A. signed in 2013.

Last month, Hino Trucks’ Class 5 195h and 195h-DC diesel electric cab-over were approved by the New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program (NYT-VIP) a partnership between the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT), and CALSTART.  $19 million in support is available through the program on a ‘first come – first served’ basis with the aim of accelerating the deployment of alternative fuel vehicles and diesel emission control devices for medium- to heavy- duty commercial fleets in New York.
