VDO RoadLog ELD designed to be a simple, affordable HOS solution

March 30, 2015

LOUISVILLE, KY. Drivers looking for a simple solution to get ahead of the coming electronic logging device (ELD) mandate got a hands-on look at Continental’s VDO RoadLog booth at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

The VDO RoadLog ELD is marketed as an easy and affordable solution to log book automation and compliance management. The stand-alone ELD features a built-in printer that can automatically print out the driver’s log at the push of a button.

VDO RoadLog is designed to offer a very practical plug-and-play solution for compliance reporting that’s both affordable (a $700 one-time charge) and easy to use.

It combines GPS data with input from the vehicle to create a digital log that the driver can either download or print out on the spot, as needed. Unlike many other systems, the VDO RoadLog ELD is available with no monthly fees or contracts.

The built-in thermal printer can produce a paper log that looks just like a traditional logbook graph, a plus with roadside inspection officials, Sales Manager Ralph DeGenova explained to American Trucker. Recognized the inspectors, this a unique feature that can help minimize hassles and delays and help drivers to get back on the road in a fraction of the time it took for previous compliance stops.

VDO RoadLog’s software is designed to convert the driver’s log data into a complete, FMCSA compliant operations record. The records are always accurate and up to date, eliminating any issues with log book entry errors and incomplete logs that can result in hefty fines. VDO has long made the leading driver-compliance solution in Europe, DeGenova noted.

In addition to fast and easy recording and reporting for HOS, IFTA, IRP and DVIR, VDO RoadLog also provides multiple options for transferring and storing driver data as well as free on-going software upgrades to meet future regulatory requirements.

VDO RoadLog is compatible with both modern CAN-bus vehicles and older vehicles with no data ports.
