Nissan Europe and Telogis, a Verizon company, have partnered to offer next-generation connected vehicle technologies and services to Nissan commercial customers in Europe. The NissanConnect Fleet powered by Telogis offering will connect customers' vehicles, people and work being done, according to the companies, helping to make drivers safer and providing higher levels of service while improving sustainability and operational efficiency.
"From empowering workers on the road and in the field to help them be safer and more efficient to optimizing daily delivery routes, NissanConnect Fleet will have a transformational effect on the way Nissan customers do business," says Philippe Guerin-Boutaud, corporate vice president of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.'s Global LCV Business Unit.
In addition, Nissan says the NissanConnect Fleet service marks "an important step" in advancing its connected services offering across Europe. The rollout is part of the brand's Intelligent Mobility strategy under which Nissan develops products and technology intended to create a safer, more sustainable future.
Utilizing hardware that has been factory-fit or installed by a certified Nissan dealer, NissanConnect Fleet technology connects fleet vehicles to the Telogis platform. The Telogis Mobile Resource Management software platform will receive and analyze proprietary Nissan data from each vehicle including driver and vehicle performance history, turning it into "actionable information to help companies of all sizes make more informed business decisions," according to Telogis.
Once connected, Telogis software can optimize and automate work and processes to drive safety, productivity, efficiency and sustainability in businesses of all sizes, the company says. The key to all this is in leveraging data from the built-in connection in Nissan vehicles, notes Kevin Moore, vice president of global OEM automotive sales at Telogis.
"There's accuracy, integrity and fidelity of the data," he tells Fleet Owner, and bringing that data into the Telogis platform "really allows us to help NissanConnect customers do things and enable their mobile workforces in ways that they couldn't before."
What does that mean in real terms for fleets? Moore says it includes advanced capabilities such as optimizing planning, routing and maintenance/ vehicle health monitoring; implementing safety and driver training programs; managing electric vehicles "in a comprehensive fashion"; and managing all makes and models of Nissan vehicles in one platform.
Further, Moore notes, Telogis and Nissan are working together in considering "other geographies where the technology could be leveraged."
NissanConnect Fleet will be available in Europe this autumn supporting the following initial vehicles, with more to come:
• All crossover range Qashqai, X-Trail and Juke;
• Medium-compact car Pulsar;
• Navara one-ton pickup;
• NV200 light commercial vehicles;
• Cabstar medium-duty vehicles; and
• Nissan LEAF and e-NV200 electric vehicles.
