Telogis, John Deere extend connected tech, services for fleet construction equipment

Nov. 2, 2016
Alliance broadens 'ecosystem' of connected equipment, expands mixed fleet services and optimizes work, companies say

DANA POINT, CA. At its annual business conference, Telogis, A Verizon Company said it is partnering with John Deere to allow construction companies to get key data and insights from their connected John Deere equipment.

"This allows fleets to bring everything in their ecosystem — including on and off-highway vehicles and equipment — into one collective system," noted Krys Grondorf, vice president of global corporate communications at Telogis. "It's about consolidating the equipment and vehicles that customers have in diverse and mixed fleets."

Through this alliance, Telogis and John Deere will enable their customers to leverage John Deere construction equipment's built-in connectivity to help drive cost savings, efficiency and productivity. Customers will have access to a richer data set that will help eliminate manual data entry and generate deeper insights into customers' operations, according to the two companies.

Maintenance is another factor. Customers also will be able to connect to JD Link to order parts and service or contact local John Deere dealers for questions, appointments and equipment troubleshooting. They will also receive more accurate equipment maintenance records that can help lead to better uptime and lower total cost of ownership, the OEM noted.

The Telogis Mobile Resource Management software platform has a "comprehensive" feature set that allows functions such as jobsite utilization alerts and reporting on engine hours; whether equipment is being fully utilized; fuel consumption; and details on diagnostic codes. The system helps customers optimize costs, according to Telogis, using telematics devices that are built into John Deere equipment at the factory or installed aftermarket.

"Working in tandem with Telogis, we're giving businesses the ability to run their entire mobile equipment business on one comprehensive software platform with one login for all their vehicles and equipment — whether it's John Deere or a mixed fleet," said Jena Holtberg-Benge, Director Worksight Solutions at John Deere.

Jeff Cohen, vice president of asset and security solutions at Telogis, noted that beyond just vehicles, fleets need to know all their equipment "is running safely and that it's out there earning money and delivering value and ROI every day." Fleets can do that "by understanding how the equipment is being used, how many hours it's running and where there are opportunities to maximize uptime and utilization," he added.

The Telogis-John Deere offering will be available to organizations of any size through connected John Deere equipment or through authorized dealers through the end of 2016, according to the companies, and each new piece of equipment will have access to both JDLink and Telogis.
