Sept. 24, 2013

Penske Truck Leasing will offer location data as part of its 24/7 roadside assistance program through an agreement with Locaid, a Location-as-a-Service (LAAS) company.

Penske said it picked Locaid rather than creating an app because the large number of “feature phones” that still exist. The use of Locaid’s services allows Penske to reach its customers regardless of the mobile device they carry.

“Whether it is through truck leasing or truck contract maintenance, the one thing our customers’ drivers have in common is that they’re mobile,” said Peter J. Lubin, director utility & telecommunications services, Penske. “Locaid’s network coverage and ability to locate drivers, regardless of device, and report back in real time was the obvious choice to add value to our services.”

Locaid worked with Penske to develop a custom interface that integrates directly into the company’s service network to support the levels of visibility and tracking that the Penske customer requires. Integrating network mobile location allows Penske to locate over 423 million wireless devices on tier one and two networks in real time.

“Penske’s innovative transportation services coupled with the unrivalled reach of Locaid¹s location data will make Penske’s 24/7 roadside assistance service the leading solution in the industry,” said Rip Gerber, president & CEO of Locaid.
