The latest version of Ortec Transport & Distribution (Ortec TD 2010) includes new functionality and improved usability, Ortec said. Ortec TD 2010 is an advanced planning and optimization software.

The update was designed to improve its “look and feel.” There are a number of enhancements, including an updated route proposal screen to allow users to clearly see alternative scenarios for optimal routing according to costs, distance and time. Users can also see a “proposed” route. Map controls such as zooming, centering and panning have been improved and an “explode” map function which provides an overview of all activities per location has been added. Restyling wizards and the ability to highlight data for use with a clipboard function have also been added.

The program’s functionality has been improved to enhance ability to plan intermodal, container, bulk & liquid and palletized transportation. Ortec TD can now be used to create pickup and delivery batch plans that assign the most logical trailer compartment while taking into account loading history, and axle weight distribution. Intermodal trips can be split by transport mode.

Also added is a ferry/train view so that it is easier to display trailer assignments to boat and rail departures, and a congestion patterns function. Ortec partnered with Navteq to create a module to account for truck congestion patterns, making it easier for planners to anticipate arrival/travel time.

New in this release is a web client allowing customers to use the software from any location with Internet access.
