For small fleets and owner-operators looking for a route optimization tool, OnTerra Systems has released a new solution with them in mind.
RouteSavvy Online leverages Bing Maps’ web mapping technology and runs in nearly any web browser. Cost is just $5 per month, per vehicle, said Steve Milroy, OnTerra Systems’ president & co-founder, and reduces time, labor, and fuel costs due to out-of-route miles.
“RouteSavvy Online provides a fast, easy way to optimize a route for more than 100 stops, which saves time, reduces fuel costs, and enhances customer satisfaction,” said Patrick Campbell, OnTerra Systems’ COO & co-founder. “RouteSavvy Online is extremely easy to use, and can quickly improve a fleet or business individual’s bottom line.”
The system is delivered as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product and is hosted on OnTerra’s systems. It optimizes multi-stop routes by allowing users to input their destinations through the uploading of a spreadsheet with addresses, clicking on locations on a displayed map, or by manually entering addresses.
Once addresses are entered, users also can choose whether they need a round-trip, or a variety of one-way routes. Each route can be optimized for distance, time or “adjusted for traffic” by using Bing Maps’ traffic information service.
Benefits of the system include:
- Dual ability to operate via a web browser or as a standalone desktop application (the original beta version only ran in Bing Map Apps)
- Ability to export route optimization data for use in personal navigation (GPS) devices (Garmin, Tom Tom, etc.)
- Ability to export route optimization data to Excel and CSV files
- Enhanced printing capabilities, i.e. users can now print RouteSavvy routes directly from the application for drivers not using GPS technologies in their vehicles
