• Con-way Freight again verified as a SmartWay Transport Partner

    April 12, 2013

For the seventh consecutive year, Con-way Freight, the less-than-truckload subsidiary of Con-way Inc., has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership verification.

“I commend Con-way Freight for their longstanding leadership in promoting sustainable transportation practices through the SmartWay Transport Partnership,” said Karl Simon, director of the transportation & climate division, EPA. “They’re leading the way in protecting our health and environment, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”

According to Con-way, the SmartWay Transport Partnership is a voluntary program that uses strong market-based incentives to challenge companies to improve the environmental performance of their freight operations. Through their collaboration with the EPA, partners improve their energy efficiency, save money, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.

“Participating in the SmartWay program provides clear value in that it encourages measurable, data-driven practices to improve environmental performance,” said Greg Lehmkuhl, president of Con-way Freight. “It is recognized by our customers as a benchmark, and it’s consistent with our efforts through Lean to continuously improve fuel economy and reduce our carbon footprint. SmartWay provides a proven, industry-wide process for measuring our efforts and showcasing our success.”
