Diesel prices continue to rise steeply, but the increases in gas prices aren’t as severe. The national average on-highway diesel price rose 10 cents to $3.809, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on February 23. Gas prices rose 1 cent to $2.937.

Here are this week’s diesel price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • Midwest: The biggest increase in diesel prices this week occurred in the Midwest, rising 13 cents to $3.798. 
  • West Coast: Along the West Coast, diesel prices rose 8 cents to $4.465. Without including California, diesel prices rose 8 cents to $4.050. 
  • East Coast: Along the East Coast, diesel prices rose 8 cents to $3.843.
  • Gulf Coast: Along the Gulf Coast, diesel prices rose 8 cents to $3.489. 
  • Rocky Mountain: In the Rockies, diesel prices rose 8 cents to $3.683.

According to AAA Motor Club (AAA), the current national diesel price average is $3.727. This is 8 cents lower than EIA’s current estimate and 5 cents higher than this time last year.

What are the current gasoline prices across the U.S.?

The current national average on-highway gasoline price is $2.937, according to EIA, 1 cent higher than last week’s average. 

Here are this week’s gasoline price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • West Coast: The biggest increase in gasoline prices this week occurred along the West Coast, rising 7 cents to $4.111. Without including California, gas prices rose 12 cents to $3.723. 
  • Gulf Coast: Along the Gulf Coast, gas prices rose 5 cents to $2.532.
  • East Coast: Along the East Coast, gas prices rose 0.1 cents to $2.834.
  • Midwest: In the Midwest, gas prices dropped 1 cent to $2.675.
  • Rocky Mountain: In the Rockies, gas prices dropped 8 cents to $2.662.

According to AAA, the current national gasoline price average is $2.951. This is 1 cent higher than EIA’s current estimate and 19 cents lower than this time last year. 

In a recent press release, AAA stated: "Pump prices are expected to start their seasonal climb soon, as spring approaches and summer-blend gasoline production begins. Tensions between the U.S. and Iran are another factor that could drive up crude oil prices. Right now, gas prices are the lowest they’ve been for this time of year since 2021."
