After weeks of unrest, diesel and gasoline prices finally saw some much-needed relief. The national average on-highway diesel price dropped 21 cents to $5.403, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on April 21. Gas prices dropped 8 cents to $4.044.

Here are this week’s diesel price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • Gulf Coast: The biggest drop in diesel prices this week occurred along the Gulf Coast for 24 cents to $5.069.
  • Midwest: In the Midwest, diesel prices dropped 22 cents to $5.165.
  • West Coast: Along the West Coast, diesel prices dropped 20 cents to $6.620. Without including California, diesel prices dropped 17 cents to $6.010.
  • East Coast: Along the East Coast, diesel prices dropped 18 cents to $5.494.
  • Rocky Mountain: In the Rockies, diesel prices dropped 4 cents to $5.213.

According to AAA Motor Club (AAA), the current national diesel price average is $5.511. This is 11 cents higher than EIA’s current estimate and $1.96 higher than this time last year.

What are the current gasoline prices across the U.S.?

The current national average on-highway gasoline price is $4.044, according to EIA, 8 cents lower than last week’s average. 

Here are this week’s gasoline price highlights from each region of the U.S.:

  • Gulf Coast: The biggest drop in gasoline prices this week occurred along the Gulf Coast for 12 cents to $3.617.
  • Midwest: In the Midwest, gas prices dropped 10 cents to $3.789.
  • East Coast: Along the East Coast, gas prices dropped 7 cents to $3.888.
  • West Coast: Along the West Coast, gas prices dropped 6 cents to $5.320. Without including California, gas prices dropped 3 cents to $4.929.
  • Rocky Mountain: In the Rockies, gas prices rose 4 cents to $3.936.

According to AAA, the current national gasoline price average is $4.022. This is 2 cents lower than EIA’s current estimate and 87 cents higher than this time last year. 

In a recent press release, AAA stated: “After last week’s announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, the price for a barrel of crude oil has continued to trade below $100. However, maritime traffic transiting the Strait of Hormuz remains subdued as regional tensions persist and negotiations continue.”
