Yokohama recalls 6,125 commercial tires

Dec. 19, 2022
The company is recalling the 295/75R22.5 TY517 MC² and BluEarth 109L tires in the same size that were manufactured at Yokohama’s plant in West Point, Mississippi, between May 29 and June 4.

After determining a safety defect, Yokohama Tire Corporation is recalling two sizes of commercial tires: The 295/75R22.5 TY517 MC² and BluEarth 109L in the same size, which were manufactured at Yokohama’s plant in West Point, Mississippi, between May 29, 2022, and June 4, 2022.

A total of 68 TY517 MC² and 3 BluEarth 109L tires are believed to be affected, but out of an abundance of caution, 6,125 tires are being recalled, the company said in a press release.

The recall, initiated in accordance with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration regulations, was issued because the tires may have been manufactured with an out-of-specification tread base compound. There is potential for a portion of the tread to separate from the casing of the tire,  increasing the risk of a crash.

Yokohama announced it would replace free of charge any tires subject to this recall with tires of comparable value. This replacement includes the cost of mounting and balancing the replacement tires. In the case of a dual assembly, Yokohama will allow both tires in the dual assembly to be replaced with new Yokohama tires.

According to Yokohama, commercial customers should contact their Yokohama dealer as soon as possible to arrange a service date for replacement tires.
