Thermo King’s new Smooth Air Blower is said to cut fuel usage while increasing cooling capacity on both single- and multi-temperature refrigeration units.

The system is now standard on the company’s Spectrum multi-temperature refrigeration units and the SB-30 series single-temperature units, including the SB-130, Sb-230, and SB-330.

According to Thermo King, the system increases cooling capacity by up to 4% while cutting fuel usage by up to 7%. It also uses 24% less power than previous generation blower assemblies.

A smaller blower assembly is able to be used due to a more efficient blade design, the company pointed out. Also, smoother inlet air means less friction and less energy consumed, resulting in the increased capacity.

“Fuel costs, especially now, are a major part of our customers’ budgets, so Thermo King is working to find innovative solutions like this to help them lower costs and increase efficiency,” said Tom Kampf, product manager. “The Smooth Air Blower assembly also helps our customers improve sustainability and overall efficiency.”
