Four new FedEx medium-duty hybrid electric trucks are gearing up to serve Denver, CO.
The new trucks will bring a total of 93 hybrid vehicles FedEx operates in cities such as New York, Tampa, Sacramento and Washington, DC, said John Formisano, vp-global vehicles for FedEx Express
“The introduction of these hybrid vehicles in Denver is another milestone in our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship,” he noted. “We are hopeful efforts like this will help spur manufacturing in the hybrid sector, bringing [hybrid] down costs and so allow us to introduce more of these vehicles in cities across the country.”
Formisano added that FedEx’s medium-duty hybrid-- developed in cooperation with Environmental Defense and Eaton Corp.-- decreases soot by 96% and smog causing emissions by 65% compared to a standard diesel-powered truck, while traveling 57% farther on a gallon of fuel, reducing fuel costs by over a third compared to a standard diesel-only vehicle.
