Meritor Wabco Vehicle Control Systems has introduced the third generation of its Roll Stability Support trailer system, RSSplus. Designed specifically for the North American market, it should be available late in the first quarter of 2008.

Compatible with spring and air ride suspensions, RSSplus is a 2-modulator (2M) roll mitigation system that retains side-by-side wheel end control, integrates ABS and Power Line Carrier (PLC) capability, offers independent wheel end monitoring and features standardized SAE diagnostics.

The addition of PLC capability to the stability system's ECU enables communication of data such as suspension weight, tire pressure and wheel-end temperatures between the tractor and trailer via a PLC display.

Meritor Wabco says that troubleshooting is easier with the SAE diagnostics, which are also integrated into the company's Toolbox PC software.

RSSplus also features a new cable connector system “for more positive connections and cable stabilization to prevent damage and mitigate potential problems with connector corrosion,” according to Meritor Wabco.

Meritor Wabco estimates that the price of RSSplus will be somewhere between $700 and $900. The company will continue to sell the second-generation RSS system as well.

Separately, ArvinMeritor announced that it has acquired Mascot Truck Ports Ltd., a major component remanufacturer based in Mississauga, ON. The acquisition gives ArvinMeritor access to six Canadian remanufacturing facilities and a network of logistics counters across North America.

Mascot remanufactures transmissions, drive axle carriers, steering gears and drivelines.
