CB radios with wireless technology introduced

March 20, 2012

LOUISVILLE, KY. To help meet distracted driving laws calling for hands-free calling, Cobra Electronics has released two new citizen’s band (CB) radios this week at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

The Cobra 29 LX BT features Bluetooth technology that allows drivers to connect it to their mobile phone for hands-free mobile calling. Among the features of the device are one-touch operation for initiating or terminating calls; caller ID with voice to audibly announce callers, caller ID display; text-to-speech conversion to listen to incoming email messages and responding to emails by talking; and jacks for external push-to-talk and external microphone.

It also includes 10 NOAA weather channels, 24/7 emergency weather alerts, a four-color LCD display, and noise-cancelling microphone.

“Nearly a decade ago, we anticipated the day when hands-free mobile calling legislation would become a reality for truckers, and we began work on products and technologies to not only address this problem, but to measurably improve the quality of in-cab communication,” said Sally Washlow, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Cobra Electronics. “With the Cobra 29 LX BT, we’re pleased to provide our loyal professional driving customers with a breakthrough product that makes their work legally-compliant, safe, and trouble-free.”

Cobra also introduced the Cobra 25 LX, which leverages the 29 LX model in a compact, full-featured CB radio with four-color selectable LCD display. The 25 LX features day/night illumination with adjustable brightness, a digital frequency display, advanced radio check diagnostics, instant channel 9 and 19, and public address capability.

The 25 LX will be available in April while the 29 LX BT goes on sale in May.
