Navistar to offer new automatic gearbox/engine combo for ProStar tractor

Oct. 2, 2015
Allison TC10 automatic coupled with the Cummins ISX15 will be available for order on International ProStar Class 8 models in December.

Navistar is adding a new transmission/engine combination for its International ProStar Class 8 highway tractor model: Allison Transmission’s fully automatic TC10 gearbox married to the Cummins ISX15 diesel.

The OEM said this new combination can be ordered beginning in December 2015, with expected delivery dates of early 2016, noted Jeff Sass, Navistar’s senior VP-sales and marketing, in a statement.

He added that the Allison TC10, offered with 10 forward speeds and two reverse, uses a patented torque converter and full power shifts and is considered “well-suited” for distribution applications where the tractor-trailer splits its work cycle between city and highway conditions, noted Heidi Schutte, executive director of North America sales for Allison.

First introduced in 2014 on International ProStar and International TranStar powered by N13, the Allison TC10 uses a “blended architecture” with full-power shifts, a torque converter and a twin countershaft gear box.

Allison added that the TC10 now comes equipped with the company’s latest generation of electronic controls and FuelSense technology, to help boost fuel economy and provide prognostic data to eliminate unnecessary oil and filter changes and enhanced shift selector functionality.
