ExxonMobil details CK-4, FA-4 oil options

Oct. 7, 2016
ExxonMobil releases new commercial-grade engine oils to meet new specifications for transportation.

Like all oil manufacturers, ExxonMobil has created a new line of commercial vehicle engine oils to comply with the new PC-11 specification, which will be formally licensed on Dec. 1.

The PC-11 specs feature two categories – CK-4 and FA-4. ExxonMobil said it has tested its new Mobil Delvac oil options over 30 million miles of testing, with “significant improvements in viscosity control, oxidation resistance and wear protection” the result, the company said.

The new lineup includes Mobil Delvac 1300 Super and fully synthetic Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40, as well as new additions to the Delvac family, such as low viscosity Mobil Delvac Extreme semi-synthetic oils.

According to the company, testing found the new oils provide and 80% improvement in high temperature viscosity control; 50% improvement in oxidation resistance; and a 20% improvement in wear protection over previous oils.

“As these results indicate, fleets that have been testing our CK-4 and FA-4 formulations have consistently reported exceptional results,” said Michael Smith, commercial vehicle lubricants global brand manager, ExxonMobil Fuels and Lubricants.  “Because we started the advanced research and testing programs for our CK-4 and FA-4 formulations in 2011, ExxonMobil is well prepared to help fleets and owner-operators have an easy transition when the PC-11 lubricant specification goes into effect on Dec. 1.”

The Mobile Delvac CK-4 oils will include Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40, Mobil Delvac Extreme - premium synthetic blend, and Mobil Delvac 1300 Super. All three are backwards compatible with nearly all current diesel engine types, the company said, and are direct replacements for current CJ-4 oils. A range of viscosities are available.

The FA-4 oils will not be backwards compatible. They are specifically formulated to meet or exceed the new API FA-4 specification. The FA-4 oils will include the Mobil Delvac Extreme FE premium synthetic blend and Mobil Delvac Super FE.
