NHTSA’s latest safety notices feature loss of steering, camera image display errors, and more.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from Ford, Western Star, Volvo, and more.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Ford F-150 Lightning models’ deactivated electronic stability control

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2022-2023 F-150 Lightning vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall number 23V801. The SYNC software may fail to activate the electronic stability control system at the beginning of each ignition cycle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems." Failure to reset the ESC to active may result in the driver unknowingly operating the vehicle without electronic stability control, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects six vehicles. Dealers will update the Accessory Protocol Interface Module software. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 9. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25C15.

Ford F-150 Lightning BEV models’ loss of steering from front control arm separation

Ford is recalling certain 2024-2025 F-150 Lightning BEV vehicles. The front upper control arm ball joint nut may not have been tightened properly, allowing the front upper control arm to detach from the knuckle assembly. A detached control arm can cause a loss of vehicle steering and control, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 29,501 vehicles. Dealers will inspect the upper control arm ball joint nut and replace the nut and/or knuckle assembly as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 9. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 24S76. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 24V949.

Ford models’ rearview camera image may not display

Ford is recalling certain 2021-2024 Bronco; 2021-2024 F-150; 2021-2024 Edge; 2023-2024 Escape; 2023-2024 F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, and F-600; 2022-2024 Expedition; 2022-2025 Transit; 2021-2023 Mach-E; 2024 Ranger; 2024 Mustang; 2021-2023 Lincoln Nautilus; 2022-2024 Navigator; and 2023-2024 Corsair vehicles. A software error may cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or not display when the vehicle is in reverse. A frozen or missing rearview camera image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 1,075,299 vehicles. The Accessory Protocol Interface Module software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air update. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed June 16. A second letter will be sent once the remedy is available, which is anticipated for third-quarter 2025. Ford Ranger models’ loss of steering from front control arm separation

Ford is recalling certain 2024-2025 Bronco and Ranger vehicles. The front upper control arm ball joint fastener may be missing or tightened improperly, allowing the front upper control arm to detach from the knuckle assembly. A detached control arm can cause a loss of vehicle steering and control, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 4,497 vehicles. Dealers will inspect and tighten, or replace the ball joint fastener as necessary. Owner notification letters were mailed May 23. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25S45.

Ford Transit models’ instrument panel not illuminated

Ford is recalling certain 2022-2023 Transit vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall number 22V415. The Instrument Panel Cluster may not properly illuminate warning lights or gauges. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 101, "Control and Displays." An instrument panel that does not illuminate critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, can increase the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 3,506 vehicles. Dealers will update the instrument panel cluster software. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 23. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25C19.

Mack MD models’ seat belt routed incorrectly

Mack Trucks is recalling certain 2026 Mack MD vehicles. The center bench seat belt assembly may be routed incorrectly. An incorrectly routed seat belt assembly may not restrain an occupant as intended, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

This recall potentially affects 42 vehicles. Dealers will inspect and replace the seat belt assembly as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 18. Owners may contact Mack's customer service at 800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0478.

Orange EV models’ pintle hook blocks backup light

Orange EV is recalling certain 2024 HUSK-e, 2023-2025 e-TRIEVER, and 2017-2024 T-Series trucks. The pintle hook partially blocks the center of the backup lights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." Obstructed backup lights can reduce the vehicle's visibility to pedestrians or other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 301 vehicles. Orange EV service will replace the rear passenger taillight. Owner notification letters are scheduled to be mailed June 30. Owners may contact Orange EV customer service at 866-688-5223.

Ram ProMaster models’ rearview camera image may not display

Chrysler is recalling certain 2022-2025 Ram ProMaster vehicles. A software error in the security gateway module may cause the rearview camera image not to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility." A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 235,640 vehicles. Dealers will update the security gateway module software. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 19. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is 40C.

Volvo VN models’ improperly routed power cables

Volvo Trucks North America is recalling certain 2025-2026 Volvo VN trucks. The power cables may have been improperly routed, which can cause an electrical short. An electrical short can cause an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. An electrical short can also cause the cables to overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.

This recall potentially affects 224 vehicles. Dealers will re-route the power cables. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 18. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks' customer service at 800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks' number for this recall is RVXX2505.

Western Star models’ incorrectly installed battery connection may cause fire

Daimler Truck North America is recalling certain 2020-2026 Western Star 49X and 2021-2026 Western Star 47X vehicles. A stud connecting the battery to the starter at the frame rail may have been incorrectly installed, which can cause a short circuit. A short circuit increases the risk of a fire.

This recall potentially affects 21,560 vehicles. The remedy is currently under development. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is F1020.
