  • Fleets should monitor NHTSA notices and act quickly on recall instructions to maintain safety and compliance.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from Altec and Fontaine Trailer.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Altec models’ cable entry step may detach

Altec Industries is recalling certain 2024-2025 aerial device, digger derrick, and service body vehicles. The cable step wire rope assembly may be improperly secured, which can allow the cable entry step to detach from the vehicle. A cable step that fails during use increases the risk of injury.

This recall potentially affects 1,352 vehicles. Altec will provide owners with instructions to inspect the cable crimps. If the cables are improperly crimped, Altec will provide instructions and a kit to replace the wire rope assemblies. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 24. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN-3246.

Fontaine Trailer models’ incorrect wiring may disable ABS

Fontaine Trailer Company is recalling certain 2025-2026 Fontaine HCIFL12SAT and HCIFL82CTA forklift trailers. The auto lift axle cables may not be installed in the correct ports, which can disable the antilock brake system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems." Driving without a functioning antilock brake system may result in the trailer not braking as intended, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 35 vehicles. Fontaine Trailer will rewire the cable connections. Owners may contact Fontaine Trailer customer service at 800-821-6535, option 5.
