Key takeaways

  • NHTSA issued multiple recalls covering trucks and work vehicles due to steering, door, and seat belt safety defects.
  • Even small component failures can increase crash risk, making recall awareness critical for commercial vehicle operators.
  • Drivers and owners should act quickly on recall notices to maintain safety and avoid preventable downtime or liability.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from Nissan, Kenworth, and more.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Kenworth, Peterbilt models’ steering cross-shaft may fail

Paccar is recalling certain 2025 Kenworth L770 and 2024-2026 Peterbilt 520 vehicles. The right-hand stand-up (RHSU) configuration on the steering cross-shaft may become stressed and fail. A steering cross-shaft that fails can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 219 vehicles. Dealers will inspect and repair the steering cross-shafts and replace any that are damaged or broken. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 20. Owners may contact Peterbilt's customer service at 940-591-4220 and Kenworth's customer service at 425-828-5888. Paccar’s number for this recall is 26PACA.

Nissan models’ improperly welded door strikers

Nissan North America is recalling certain 2025 Altima, Sentra; 2025-2026 Frontier; and 2026 Kicks vehicles. The door strikers may have been improperly welded and break, allowing the door to open while moving. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components." A door that opens unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion increases the risk of injury or a crash.

This recall potentially affects 26,432 vehicles. Dealers will replace the door strikers. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 13. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261. Nissan's numbers for this recall are PD185 and PMA61.

Rivian models’ improperly secured seatbelt retractor assemblies

Rivian Automotive is recalling certain 2022-2025 R1T and 2022-2026 R1S vehicles. The bolts that secure the second-row driver and passenger side seat belt retractor assemblies may be improperly tightened. An improperly secured seat belt retractor may not adequately restrain the seat occupant, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

This recall potentially affects 869 vehicles. Rivian will inspect and tighten the bolts as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 9. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1795.
