Key takeaways

  • NHTSA recalls affect Ford, Mack, Volvo, Tesla, and trailers across multiple safety-critical systems.
  • Issues include braking failures, seat defects, and structural weld problems impacting fleet safety compliance.
  • Fleets should monitor recalls closely to prevent downtime and reduce crash risk from equipment defects.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from Ford, Mack Trucks, VTNA, and more.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Ford models’ loose bolt in front seat frame

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2024-2026 Ranger and Bronco vehicles. The front seats may have a loose or dislodged seat frame height-adjust pivot bolt. A seat with a dislodged bolt may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

This recall potentially affects 179,698 vehicles. Dealers will inspect and replace the pivot links and bolts as necessary. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed May 11. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, which is anticipated to be in July 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 26S30.

Lode King models’ insufficient rear impact protection

Lode King Industries is recalling certain 2019-2026 SDG53-3, SDF53-3, and SDF50-3 trailers. The rear impact guard may be missing welds, reducing the guard's structural strength. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 223, "Rear Impact Guards." A guard with inadequate strength may not sufficiently protect a following vehicle, increasing the risk of injury during a rear-end crash.

This recall potentially affects 114 vehicles. Lode King will inspect and add welds as necessary. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed May 4. Owners may contact Lode King's customer service at 204-325-4345 or 866-797-0669.

Mack models’ rear brake modulators may short-circuit

Mack Trucks is recalling certain 2025-2027 Pioneer and 2026-2027 Anthem vehicles. The rear brake modulators may have unprotected electrical connectors that can short-circuit and lead to a loss of the antilock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC). A loss of antilock brakes and electronic stability control increases the risk of a crash or injury.

This recall potentially affects 2,337 vehicles. Dealers will inspect the rear brake modulator electrical connectors, install a protective cover, and replace the rear brake modulators as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 22. Owners may contact Mack's customer service at 800-866-1177. Mack's number for this recall is SC0494.

Shyft Group models’ incorrect GVWR on certification label

Shyft Group is recalling certain 2022 Utilimaster Aeromaster vehicles. Thegross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) listed on the certification label may be incorrect. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification." Referencing the incorrect GVWR may lead to unintentionally overloading the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 21 vehicles. Shyft will install new labels. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 14. Owners may contact Shyft customer service at 800-237-7806. Shyft's number for this recall is 26-03.

Tesla Cybertruck models’ wheel stud may separate

Tesla is recalling certain 2024-2026 Cybertruck vehicles equipped with 18-in. steel wheels. The brake rotor stud holes may crack and allow the stud to separate from the wheel hub. Wheel stud separation can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 173 vehicles. Tesla Service will replace the front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 20. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-26-33-003.

VTNA VNL and VNR models’ rear brake modulators may short-circuit

Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA) is recalling certain 2026-2027 VNR (4) and 2025-2027 VNL (4) vehicles. The rear brake modulators may have unprotected electrical connectors that can short-circuit and lead to a loss of the antilock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC). A loss of antilock brakes and electronic stability control increases the risk of a crash or injury.

This recall potentially affects 2,800 vehicles. Dealers will inspect the rear brake modulator electrical connectors, install a protective cover, and replace the rear brake modulators, as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 22. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks' customer service at 800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks' number for this recall is RVXX2605.
