Recall Roundup: NHTSA flags GM, Honda, Chrysler, and Wabash safety defects across fleets

GM, Honda, Chrysler, and Wabash vehicles are included in federal recalls involving airbag, sensor, and rear visibility failures.

Key takeaways

  • NHTSA recalls affect GM, Honda, Chrysler, and Wabash vehicles tied to safety defects and FMVSS compliance risks.
  • Issues include rearview camera failure, airbag sensor defects, and roof rail inflator risks across multiple OEM models.
  • Widespread recalls highlight ongoing fleet exposure to visibility, restraint, and trailer safety compliance challenges.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from General Motors, Wabash, and more.

Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners of these vehicles can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information on each recall can be found below.

Chrysler models’ rearview camera image may not display

Chrysler is recalling certain 2019 and 2023 Chrysler Pacifica, 2024 Ram 1500, Ram 2500, and 2024-2025 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. Contamination in the central vision processing module or improper programming may cause the rearview camera image not to display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rear Visibility." A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 16 vehicles. Dealers will update the central vision processing module software or replace the module as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 11. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is 46D.

General Motors models’ roof rail airbag inflator endcap may detach

General Motors is recalling certain 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2018 GMC Sierra 1500, 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500, 2019 Silverado 3500, 2019 GMC Sierra 2500, and 2019 Sierra 3500 vehicles. The left-side or right-side roof rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator, or the inflator sidewall may rupture. A detached end cap or inflator rupture can allow compressed gas to escape and project the end cap or fragments of the inflator into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.

This recall potentially affects 2,785 vehicles. Dealers will replace both RRAB modules. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 6. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is N262557310. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 26V166.

Honda Ridgeline models’ airbags may deploy unintentionally during a crash

Honda is recalling certain 2018-2021, 2023 Acura TLX; 2019-2024 RDX; 2017-2020, 2022-2026 MDX; 2017-2021, 2023, 2025 Honda Ridgeline; 2017-2022 Pilot; 2019-2021 Passport; 2018-2026 Odyssey; 2019-2022 Insight; 2019-2021 HR-V; 2018-2020 Fit; 2020-2022 CR-V Hybrid; 2017-2022 CR-V; 2017-2018, 2021 Civic Type R; 2017-2021 Civic hatchback; 2016-2020 Civic coupe; 2016-2022 Civic; 2017-2022 Accord Hybrid; and 2016-2022 Accord vehicles. The front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short-circuit, which can cause the airbags to deploy unintentionally during a crash. Airbags that deploy unintentionally during a crash increase the risk of injury.

This recall potentially affects 98,892 vehicles. Dealers will replace the seat weight sensors. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 6. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are BOL, WO9, OOA, WOM, XOH, NOC, POD, BOE, UOF, POB, EOG, AOI, QO8, TOJ, DO7, and SOK. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 24V064.

Wabash trailer models’ missing conspicuity tape

Wabash is recalling certain 2019-2023 Transcraft Platform and 2024-2027 Wabash Platform trailers. The conspicuity tape may not have been installed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment." Missing conspicuity tape can reduce the visibility of the trailer to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

This recall potentially affects 721 trailers. Wabash will provide the conspicuity tape. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 17. Owners may contact Wabash customer service at 765-771-5404.
