Recall Roundup: Injury and fire risks prompt truck, trailer recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently issued recall notices for commercial vehicles, including brands from Wabash, Great Dane, International, and more.
Owners of the affected vehicles should be contacted via U.S. mail over the next two months, but fleet and independent owners can contact the NHTSA Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit nhtsa.gov for more details. More information about each recall can be found below.
Wabash reefer body side door steps may detach
Wabash is recalling certain 2021-2026 Econex Refrigerated Bodies. The side door stirrup steps are not properly secured and may detach. Steps that detach while in use increase the risk of injury, and steps that detach while in transit increase the risk of a crash.
This recall potentially affects 357 refrigerated truck bodies. Wabash will repair the stirrup steps, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 4, 2026. Owners may contact Wabash customer service at 1-765-771-5404. Wabash’s number for this recall is 26V435.
Wabash dry freight body liftgate failures
Wabash is also recalling certain 2025-2026 dry freight truck bodies. The liftgate deck pins may break, causing the liftgate platform to fall. An unexpectedly falling liftgate increases the risk of injury.
This recall potentially affects four truck bodies. Wabash will work with Hiab to replace the deck pins and bushing kits, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 31, 2026. Owners may contact Wabash customer service at 1-765-771-5404. Wabash’s number for this recall is 26V449.
Great Dane trailers missing rear impact guard extension channels
Great Dane Trailers is recalling certain 2027 Champion dry van trailers. The trailers may have been produced without the rear impact guard extension channels installed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 224, “Rear Impact Protection.” A rear impact guard that is not properly installed can increase the risk of injury during a crash.
This recall potentially affects 11 trailers. Dealers will install the rear impact guard extension channels, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 15, 2026. Owners may contact Great Dane’s customer service at 1-877-369-3493. Great Dane’s number for this recall is 26V465.
Altec trucks’ turntable failure risk
Altec Industries is recalling certain 2024-2026 AT Series vehicles. The turntable rotation bearing fasteners may not have been heat-treated properly. An unheat-treated fastener could fail, resulting in separation of the pedestal and turntable and increasing the risk of injury.
This recall potentially affects 309 vehicles. Altec will instruct owners to inspect the lot number on the fasteners and, if necessary, order a rotation bolt kit to replace the fasteners, or schedule service with Altec, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 11, 2026. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN-3347.
Altec AP45A truck fire risks
Altec is also recalling certain 2013-2025 AP45A trucks. The boom stow switch wire in the cargo storage area may become damaged, which can result in a short circuit and cause the wire to overheat. An overheated wire can ignite flammable material in the cargo area, increasing the risk of fire.
This recall potentially affects 884 trucks. Altec will instruct owners to inspect their vehicle and, if the wire is not protected, order a kit that includes a bolt-on guard to protect the wires, free of charge. Letters informing owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed September 11, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN-3349.
International truck battery short circuits
International Motors is recalling certain 2021, 2023-2027 MV, and 2026-2027 HV vehicles. The battery interconnect cable may contact the auxiliary stud and hold down bracket, causing a short circuit.
This recall potentially affects 15,628 trucks. Dealers will install plastic saddles onto the positive interconnect cable and, as necessary, install wind laces and a J-bolt between each battery, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed September 14, 2026. Owners may contact International customer service at 1-800-448-7825. International’s number for this recall is 26510. This recall replaces and expands NHTSA Recall 25V534; vehicles previously repaired under 25V534 will need the new remedy completed.
