Windyne Inc. has released the Flex fairing, which encloses the underside of a semi-trailer and features horizontal sliding panels and vertical lifting ability, the company said.
Constructed from lightweight material, the Flex fairing covers the most surface area and saves the most fuel among all fairings currently on the market, according to Windyne. The company added that it achieved a 7% fuel reduction independent of any other fuel-savings device during third-party SAE J1321 Type II fuel-consumption testing.
The fairing includes a proprietary horizontal telescoping feature that allows the rear panels to accommodate the forward and rearward movement of the trailer tandems for enhanced aerodynamic performance; a proprietary vertical lifting feature to provide greater ground clearance and under trailer access, and a flexible skirt finishing the bottom 12”, allowing the fairing to travel within 4” of the road, Windyne said.
