    Oct. 14, 2004

    International Marketing Inc. (IMI) has developed a regulating unit for heavy-duty vehicle battery systems that is designed to improve the reliability of cold-starts.

    Called Smart Sense, “the upgrade is especially useful in frequent start/stop service, in colder temperatures, and other conditions when peak battery output is most critical,” stated the company. “Smart Sense can also be modified to work in very hot conditions to reduce potentially harmful battery gassing.”

    According to the company, the regulator provides the following benefits:

    • longer better life;
    • faster, more reliable engine starts;
    • longer starter life;
    • more time available for driver/sleeper appliance usage without the risk of no-starts;
    • reduced engine idling time.
