Con-Way Transportation Services officials said they will withdraw the company’s proposed 2% surcharge intended to recover a portion of rising insurance expenses.

Customers said they prefer to have rising insurance expenses rolled into a more traditional general rate increase, and Con-Way has agreed to do so, company officials said.

The Insurance Surcharge was scheduled to become effective January 1, 2004 and would have affected shipments moving in its LTL companies: Con-Way Central Express, Con-Way Southern Express, Con-Way Western Express and Con-Way Canada Express.
